    Assistive Technology

Wicomico County Public Schools ensures that assistive Technology Devices, Assistive Technology Services, or both are made available to a child with a disability when required as part of the child’s special education, related services, or supplementary aids and services.

Through a collaborative process, IEP Teams systematically consider Assistive Technology for all students with disabilities.  This process allows IEP Teams to use their collective knowledge in making informed AT decisions, while encouraging them to seek additional advice as needed.  AT decisions are based on the student's abilities, their IEP goals and objectives, access to curricular and extracurricular activities, and progress in the general education curriculum, regardless of the type or severity of their disability.

While considering a student's AT requirements, IEP teams gather evidence and analyze data regarding the student, their classroom environments, and the educational tasks they are required to perform.  If a team determines AT to be required, a range of AT devices, services, as well as other supports, can be explored.
