4-5 Weekly Message
Good evening, Clipper families. This is Principal Savage with your weekly message.
The JMB SGA is happy to announce the arrival of Homecoming 2020: Better Late Than Never! Taking place all this week.
Even though we are not able to host a dance, we will still be voting for a Homecoming Court. Nominations are open now in each "Class of" Google Classroom to nominate an academically eligible student to the Homecoming Court. Voting for the homecoming court will take place on Wednesday 4/7 and Thursday 4/8 in each "Class of" Google Classroom. The winning male and female freshman, sophomore, and junior, plus the top 3 seniors, will be invited to walk at the Homecoming Football Game. The King and Queen will also be crowned then.
Here are the events by day:
Tuesday 4/6. Theme: 70s vs 2000s day. Athletic teams will be highlighted and recruiting new members. Lifetouch will also be here taking school pictures. Virtual students can sign up to get photos taken from 2- 5pm.
Wednesday 4/7. Asynchronous school day. Voting for homecoming court opens in each "Class of" Google Classroom.
Thursday 4/8. Theme: 80s day. Student can attend the "No Place For Hate Virtual Assembly" during Flex. Voting for homecoming court ends at midnight. Lifetouch will also be here taking school pictures
Friday 4/9. Theme: Black and Red. Honor societies, clubs, and other activities will be highlighted and recruiting.
Saturday 4/10. Homecoming Football game, noon at the Shipyard. Homecoming court will march the field during halftime, and the Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned. This event is open only to ticketed guests only, but will be live streamed on JMB High Sports on YouTube ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCua_w3zvydNif8rN_eUbB7Q ).
On April 8th during our FLEX period (10:35am-11:20am), all students will have the opportunity to participate in the “No Place for Hate Virtual High School Tour”. A link will be provided to all teachers and students the day prior to the event so that all can join, even if they are at home virtual. The assembly is put on by the Anti-Defamation League. Students that attend will also have the opportunity to win prizes from JMB, separate from the prizes listed on the flyer.
Did your student take Algebra 1 and/or English 10 this school year, either in semester 1 or currently in semester 2? If so, we will be providing an opportunity to satisfy the assessment graduation requirement by taking the test this spring while the content is fresh! Any hybrid or virtual student who took Algebra 1 and/or English 10 this school year, with parent input, can sign-up at the link to take the assessment this May. The link and more information can be found in the letter that is attached to the email portion of this message. This information is also posted to each grade level google classroom, and you can also ask any teacher for the link. If your student took either of those courses this year and choose not to participate in testing this spring, the requirement for graduation will NOT go away and the requirement will be to test next fall. If you have any further questions about this test administration, please contact our school testing coordinator, Mrs. Gosseline, at agosseli@wcboe.org

It continues to be an exciting time here at JMB as scheduling season has arrived. Counselors have begun meeting with rising seniors and dual enrollment students. Once that group is completed guidance begin meeting with our current sophomores followed by our freshmen. All students will have the same opportunities to get the classes they desire as we will build our schedule based off student requests. If your student requested an appointment, their counselor will set up an appointment via the student’s email. Students should be checking their school email accounts for scheduling updates. Once the process is complete students will receive an official copy of their course requests for the 2021-2022 school year.
Just a reminder that tomorrow starts picture day. Everyone in person will have an opportunity to get their picture taken. If you are attending virtual and forgot to sign up check out the link in the email to sign up for a time on the 8th. If you want to purchase pictures go to https://my.lifetouch.com/mylifetouch/#/
